After the beautitudes, we have this marvelous metaphor of salt. Salt is a preservative, it is a flavor enhancer, and it is a purifying agent.

In the same way, Christians are to be a preservative in the world, enhancing the flavor of life with the love of Christ, and purifying the world by living holy lives.
